i left about 8 years ago, at the grand old age of 24, basically being an unmarried mum of 1 (baptised when my girl was 11months old) and the 'tipping point for me' when elder sisters tried to set me up for marriage to a 64year old elder, as that would be the only man willing to marry a girl such as myself.
i ran away, i moved 300miles away.
there should be a witness pretection programme ;).
I know of at least 4 if not more baptised unmarried witnesses who were engaging in premarital sex. These were people in my close circle of friends and I am sure there were plenty more!!!
this is a letter i'm sending to my gran, i've still used some jw terminology in order to reach out to her.. dear gran,.
i want to let you know from the outset that i still love you, perhaps more so now than ever before.
i love everything about you and accept you, your beliefs, everything that makes up phyllis.. as you know i've wanted to see you again, pretty much to tell you the above and to let you now that i'm doing very well.
Nice Letter Lou, Good Luck!
loubelle has started a couple of threads about the really bad situation we are living in here in sa.
they are no exaggeration - things really are not great and people around us all seem to be talking about whether to leave or not.
and for the first time, we are amongst those talking about leaving - debating whether or not we would be able to give up life here and start over somewhere else.
Hi Guys
Thanks for all the responses everyone and the especially for the offer for help David - it is much appreciated and if we do make a UK move, I will get in touch!
Google Jacob Zuma, South African policy on AIDS, Crime Statistics, Loadshedding and you will get an idea of just a few of the challenges we face, but mostly I am keen to leave because of the crime.
Layla - I know what you are trying to say, but I really do believe that there is more to the problems that we are experiencing than simply teething problems of a new democracy and unless you are living in the thick of it you will not understand.
Lou - My family are born and bred Souf Effrikens but my husbands late dad was Irish and his sister is already a UK citizen - should moved to the UK 8 years ago on an ancestral visa. His other sister lives in Oz. We have friends who moved to NZ last year and it was a relatively easy process. They are totally settled there now!
Thanks for the tip Rayzor - I will read up "aboot" Canada - I dont know any Xpats in Canada, but you lot on JWD seem nice enough, I might just give it some thought!
Love
Boo
i leave for work later now than i did for many years - i now leave the house at 3:30 am for work.
it is very dark of course.
sunday morning - about 2 miles south of my home, i was traveling a state hi-way, good, dry conditions, probably right at the limit - 55 mph.
Thats a scary story. Glad you are still around to share it with us!

Our options are England (we could get ancestral visas), Australia or New Zealand.
This is a really hard decison and one we certainly wont be making quickly!
as long as i can recall, i have always had at least three craft or needlework "projects" going at one time!
i have had a few "unproductive years" due to two strokes that affected my right side and the use of my fingers.
i tried a few things and then put them down in desperation.. recently i picked up a crochet hook again determined to figure out a way to get things working again.....and it is slow and very awkward but i can still crochet!.
I love arts and crafts and I will try my hand at anything - I have scrapped, decopaged, mosaiced, cross stitched, painted and beaded - all with reasonable success - I am a creative person with a very short attention span!
I really want to start painting or doing a mosaic again, because I find it so therapeutic!
Other than that, I enjoy reading and JWD!!!
I am happy for you Annie that you managed to start crocheting - Well done (that is something I really cant do!!!)
if you are out there and lurking, make yourself known now - lets build up the south african contingent on this board!!
!
So Earnest... Are you from the Free State and based in the UK or not really from the Free State and pretending to be in the UK? And where are you from Rooster?
Anybody else lurking out there?
here we go again... i never mention anything about the meetings or study articles or associating with other jws in emails to my mum so i think she suspects that i am not attending my local kingdom hall (which is true).
so the line in her most recent email isn't suprising - i hope you'll be attending the memorial on the 22nd of this month.
the thought of what i could reply is giving me a dangerous itch!
Hi there... I know how you feel misfit - Even though my mum knows that I dont attend meetings, she still invites me to the memorial every year and I dread it every year. I have to wonder whether she will mention it this year after the big talk we had last week!
